Samsung’s latest software update, One UI 6.1, made its debut with the Galaxy S24 Series, unveiling a host of AI-powered features.
While there are subtle visual changes to Samsung’s interface, the software update introduces several new AI-supported functions.
One UI 6.1 brings in AI-powered features such as “Live Translate” for real-time call translations, “Generative Edit” for advanced photo manipulation, and “Generative Wallpapers” for AI-designed customizable backgrounds.
Although not revolutionary, these additions offer practical functionality, with Live Translate potentially bridging communication gaps effectively.
The rollout of One UI 6.1 is not exclusive to the Galaxy S24 Series. Samsung has confirmed its release for several other devices, as reported by Gizmochina on Monday (January 22, 2024). Here’s the list:
- Galaxy S23
- Galaxy S23+
- Galaxy S23 Ultra
- Galaxy S23 FE
- Galaxy Tab S9
- Galaxy Tab S9+
- Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold 5
- Galaxy Z Flip 5
The One UI 6.1 update for these devices is expected in the first half of 2024.
Similarly, One UI 6.1 testing has been observed for the following devices so far (via Android Authority):
- Galaxy S22 Series
- Galaxy S21 Series
- Galaxy Z Fold 4 and
- Galaxy Z Flip 4
- Galaxy S21 FE
- Galaxy A54
- Galaxy A34
It’s worth noting that on older devices, more complex AI features may not function smoothly due to less powerful processors. They may require an internet connection for processing, unlike the Galaxy S24 devices.
Additionally, not all features will be available on every device receiving the update.
Furthermore, some of Samsung’s latest AI features will be free “until the end of 2025.” After that, they may require a subscription, but Samsung has not provided details on this matter.
This implies that even the new Galaxy S24 Series might lose access to some AI features after 2025.
